Founder’s Note 09

Simmone-Founders-Head.jpg

At the end of each year, I take some time to reflect on the ups, downs and in betweens of the past 11 months. I start by jotting down a list of everything that happened in order to clear out the clutter and give myself the headspace to center on gratefulness.

Entering a new year with a metaphorical clean slate feels so good. It helps me recommit to more self-care, purge my inbox, and create fitness goals that will undo all of the sugary holiday indulgences.

But 2020 has been different than other years. And not just because we are in the middle of an unprecedented global pandemic, which has resulted in so many of us losing loved ones near and far. This year also brought us anti-racism protests across every corner of our country and a presidential election that tested the boundaries of our democracy.

And yet we are still here.

There are those of you who are reading this that came to us fraught with anxiety when you were informed that your partner wasn’t allowed in the hospital room for the birth of your baby. There are some of you that picked up mid-pregnancy and moved clear across the country and had to restart your search for prenatal care. And, still, there are many of you who planned to have grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles and friends to lend a helping hand with your newborn, but went home to empty homes and no help.

Hundreds of thousands of text messages later, you made it.

We made it - together.

We have become each other’s community.

We have become each other’s advocates.

We’ve shared tips and tools, trials and tears, and now we’re ready to tackle 2021 and beyond.

In this edition of The Push newsletter, we are sharing a Q&A with Smita “Nadia” Hussain, a lifelong activist and advocate who works as the Maternal Justice Campaign Director at MomsRising. Nadia shares with us her favorite products from pregnancy to postpartum as well as her inspiring story raising two sons and fighting for the U.S. to become the safest and healthiest place to give birth.

Thank you for joining us on this journey and for allowing us to be a part of yours.

With Love,

Simmone Taitt, Founder
